House of Formlab – Cabinet of curious goods
Amsterdam has just got itself a new place to shop, HOF cabinet of curious goods is the Pijp’s opulent answer to pristine white concept stores.
Frequent visitors to Formlab creative agency probably remember our space filled with white walls, vintage furniture and air-purifying foliage. The two latter have remained, but the makeover that has taken place at House of Formlab, cabinet of curious goods, is now more reminiscent of an Alladin’s cave than a Scandinavian concept store.
This brand-new addition to the lively Pijp area breaks with the tradition of white walls, white plates, white-washed wood, and minimalism in general. Instead you’ll find treasures from all over the world, from embellished wooden skulls to handmade silver talisman jewellery, and from couture coats to handmade plates featuring lines such as: “Lovers & Fuckers”. Many of the objects are handcrafted, and every single one holds its own personal story.
“Step inside my cabinet of curious goods and be transported to faraway lands, and realms of the unknown” – Madame Formtastica
Those stories are expertly told by Formlab’s Artistic Director and newbie shop owner Nicole Struwer (aka Madame Formtastica) and her friends, a colourful group of crazy creatives who love a bit of banter and a nice cup of artisanal tea – and if you’re lucky will offer you a glass of home-brewed moonshine, you have been warned though, this stuff is pretty strong.
What’s so special about House of Formlab, we hear you ask, isn’t it just another concept store on the block? Well, we like to think of it as so much more than a place to shop. Nicole encourages people to drop by for a chat, some homemade cake, or maybe even to spin a vinyl or two.
House of Formlab is not-to-be-missed during your visit to Amsterdam’s Pijp
area whether you’re just browsing or looking for a fab gift.
Open Thurs-Sat 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
